about

This music arose throughout 2022 and 2023 from places of deep pain and deep peace, sometimes in alternation and sometimes simultaneously. Much of it was never intended to be an on album but when I started playing with arrangements of the tracks I'd accumulated it began to coalesce into something that intrigued me. The album is unusual for Unwell in that there are no long-form pieces, all are well under ten minutes. It was interesting to work with these shorter track durations and approach the sequence of them as a sort of mosaic narrative. What they speak of to me most is compassion and paradox, two aspects of existence that I've continously come into new dimensions of relation with during the time this album developed. I'd like to dedicate it to the wisdom keepers who have influenced this work overtly or subtly, including Ram Dass, Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, Thich Nhat Hanh, Alan Watts, Tsultrim Allione, Jack Kornfield, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Pema Chodron, Rachael Wooten, John Blofeld, William Leonard Pickard, and of course the irreplacable individuals in my personal life who have helped make this past year one of the most strange, surreal, and fascinating experiences of my life. As always I offer my sincerest gratitude to you the listener, and my hopes that this music in some way nourishes and supports you in connecting with compassion, peace, and freedom.
